What Our Community Does
Autism Gold Coast provides services and support to over 600 families whose lives are connected by Autism Spectrum Disorder on the Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast is the sixth largest city in Australia and one of the fastest growing regions in our country. Covering an area of 1400 square kilometers, the city’s boundaries extend from just south of Beenleigh to Coolangatta, taking in South Stradbroke Island and part of Moreton Bay and extending west to the hinterland of Mount Tamborine and the Lamington and Darlington Ranges.
Families from northern NSW also seek services from Autism Gold Coast. This places an enormous strain on the organisation in being able to effectively deliver services to an expanding clientele over such a huge demographic area. The Gold Coast’s current population of 591,473 (as at 2010) is expected to continue to grow by 13,000 to 16,000 people per year, so that by 2030 Gold Coast City will be home to some 900,000 residents.
It is estimated that approximately 3500 people have Autism Spectrum Disorders in our catchment area. These numbers will essentially almost double by 2030 ensuring that Autism Gold Coast similarly needs to grow and expand to continue to provide outstanding services and support for those affected by autism.
